What’s On: Spring in the Granite Belt

With just a few days until the official start of spring, it’s timely to take a look at what’s on in Stanthorpe and surrounds over the next couple of months (to end of November 2018).  Whilst you’ll no doubt still enjoy the cool weather and might choose to stay snuggled up in front of the fireplace with your loved one, there are certainly some delightful dalliances to be had and places to explore.

6-9 SEPTEMBER If you love arts and culture then The Peter Allen Festival might just be your thing.  It’s just one week away and located in Tenterfield which is less than an hour from Stanthorpe.

15 SEPTEMBER Foodies rejoice! Do your taste buds a favour and take them to The Gamekeepers Dinner, which is a delicious 5 course degustation meal.  It’s been going for nearly 30 years now, and is held at Ballandean Estate Winery, 20 minutes from Stanthorpe.

21 SEPTEMBER Looking for a relaxed afternoon, or evening with fabulous food and the laid back vibe of live music? Check out the Friday Night Street Food at Queensland College of Wine Tourism, Stanthorpe.

6 OCTOBER Get your Greek on at Kefi at the Winery.  Enjoy a fun night of Greek music, dancing, food and a selection of wines, held at Kominos Wines at Glen Aplin, just 10 minutes from Stanthorpe.

18 OCTOBER Wine lovers, look here! The Australian Small Wine Makers Show hosts the best of Australian boutique wine. There’s a range of events from masterclasses, to public tastings and a gala dinner.

20 OCTOBER Country racing fans, this is for you. The Stanthorpe Cup day is a much anticipated local event that brings a carnival atmosphere to the Stanthorpe Jockey Club.  Food, fashion and fine wine in perfect Stanthorpe racing style.

2-3 NOVEMBER The Johnny Cash Country Festival ticks all the boxes for Rockabilly and Country music lovers and this one’s right in Stanthorpe featuring Johnny Cash tribute bands. There will even be a night of Johnny Cash movies and a song contest.  Huge fun! Did you know Johnny Cash was a regular visitor in Stanthorpe?  The Border Post have a wonderful story about a concert Johnny Cash organised here in Stanthorpe many years ago.

10 NOVEMBER For the gourmet and wine lover, Dinner Under the Stars at Ballandean’s Twisted Gum Wines might take your fancy.  Limited places are available for you to experience local ingredients and meals crafted by Jason Costanzo plus wines of course, all under the gorgeous Granite Belt night sky!  You can just imagine how lovely this will be.
